On Education

Music has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember - first as a student of music learning from esteemed gurus and thereafter as a teacher of music myself.

Developing my own style and method of teaching was a matter that I gave considerable time and thought - especially considering that my students include a number of youngsters going through a critical development phase in their lives. I must say it has been an interesting and rewarding experience.

I believe that discipline and having the right values in life are an essential and integral part of learning - be it of Carnatic music or any other subject.I very strongly believe that knowlege without these have no value and does not benefit the individual or the society in the long run. In many instances as we see in today's world, it can be downright damaging - both to the individual and to the society at large. I sincerely wish that educational institutions would consider inculcating self descipline and concern for other human beings in the hearts of todays students. This will be possible only if the management of these institutions and the teachers themselves become role models in these aspects.

As a carnatic music teacher, I see my role as beyond teaching varnams, kritis. I am using my musical knowledge to draw people to me, mostly youngsters to imbibe the above value sets for themselves and through them their parents and other people around them.

I am fortunate to have these groups to reach out to and share my ideas. I would consider my work as a teacher truly accomplished if I can help my students and the other people in my circle of music to be good human beings and citizens in addition to being good singers or professionals.

I provide Online Coaching classes through Skype for aspiring students across the globe. Click Here to view my Online Students Testimonials.
